Following reports suggesting Marcus Rashford could be out for the next three months with a double stress fracture to his back, it has been little surprise to see Manchester United being linked with a potential swoop for a new forward.

And according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the latest man the Red Devils are looking at, is Krzysztof Piatek.

Speaking on The Ornstein and Chapman Podcast, the journalist revealed that even before Rashford’s injury, the Manchester side contacted Milan in the last few weeks to keep abreast of any developments regarding Piatek – it is further claimed the Serie A giants are willing to sell him for €35m, or on a loan with an obligation to buy.

After hearing about the links to Piatek, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

A couple of fans labelled Piatek as “over-rated”, with one supporter in particular disgruntled at the fact that after missing out on Erling Braut Haaland to Borussia Dortmund, they are now targeting the former.

A couple of supporters of the Manchester side insisted however that he would represent a much better option than Edinson Cavani – a player who has also been linked with a move.

If United needed a striker before the major injury blow to Rashford, then they are in even more desperate need for one now. The Red Devils have been left with just Martial and Greenwood as their two fully-fit front-line centre-forwards, and the latter is still in the fledgling stages of his footballing career. It’s a tall order to ask him to fire the Manchester side to success this season.

Whilst Piatek may not be enjoying the greatest of times at Milan with just five goals all season, the 24-year-old would quite simply be another body to add to the forward ranks. United are not in a position where they can just bide their time and wait for the right player at this moment. They need another striker, and that is the be-all and end-all for now.

Meanwhile, Manchester United fans have torn into this ace after his nightmare display against Liverpool.
