Glamorgan CCC Media Release21-Jun-2002Wales have named a squad of fourteen for Monday’s inaugural internationalchallenge match against the full England one-day side at Sophia Gardens.Steve James, the Captain, who was forced to miss Wednesday’s record-breakingCheltenham & Gloucester Trophy tie against Surrey at The Oval because hisdaughter was ill, is hopeful of being able to lead the Wales team out onMonday.The balance of the side suggests that Matthew Maynard will keep wicket forWales, as he did for Glamorgan before breaking his hand in a Benson & HedgesCup game against Gloucestershire in early May. Maynard hasn’t kept wicket ina game since returning to the Glamorgan side last week and will test hishand in practice this weekend. Mark Wallace is named in the fourteen ascover.Steffan Jones, Tony Cottey and Jacques Kallis are all included in the squad,which will meet up for practice in Cardiff on Sunday. The final XI will benamed on Monday morning. The squad is :Steve James; Robert Croft; David Hemp; Jacques Kallis; Matthew Maynard; MikePowell; Tony Cottey; Adrian Dale; Darren Thomas; Steffan Jones; AndrewDavies; Dean Cosker; Simon Jones and Mark Wallace.In addition to Jones, Cottey and Kallis, all of the current Glamorgancontracted players are very keen to play in what could be a unique occasion.Because of this, selection of the final eleven has been placed in the handsof a small group chaired by Glamorgan’s Cricket Committee Chairman – RickyNeedham, and including current Glamorgan President and former EnglandCaptain – Tony Lewis.England named a 15-man squad earlier in the week for the forthcoming NatWestSeries matches against India and Sri Lanka.
